IndianGully is an upcoming experience studio that curates and exhibits diverse art forms and craft techniques. We discover art in everyday life; life has no consistency, and art reflects that in its purest form.
Anything handcrafted has a story to narrate: of the artisan, the art form, the place of its origin, the material, and the lives of people who inspire the form and function of their craft.
IndianGully is an extension of a journey that began with creating art and observing life around me through trips to explore the lanes of India and to understand social issues, public opinion, and different ways of living. Experience helps me evolve, and I discover my lessons ‘on the road’.
This project is inspired by my conversations with Shri Kuldeep Kothari, whom I met while I was travelling in Rajasthan. Kuldeep ji is the secretary of Rupayan Sansthan (Rajasthan Institute of Folklore), founded by Padma Bhushan Komal Kothari. He has journeyed through the desert exploring its rich cultural and musical traditions. This has helped develop a unique understanding of people’s knowledge systems. Arna
Jharna, the Thar Desert Museum, shares this knowledge with the public through curated experiences.
Our freewheeling conversations are often about art, life and how they inspire each other while teaching us lessons in simple yet meaningful ways. Collaborating with different artisans and craft communities, we hope that we can extend this conversation through IndianGully.
